DELIVERABLES.
Create a unique visual direction for the brandstorm hackathon for microsoft, and the 4 project management bootcamp workshops.

MISA SFU
In 2024, MISA hosted a Microsoft hackathon and a Project Management Bootcamp, requiring unique branding and art direction to boost ticket sales, engagement, and create learning and networking opportunities for students.
overview
Background.
Breakthrough, hosted by Microsoft, is a hackathon focused on addressing global challenges through innovative tech solutions. PMBC offers students a comprehensive introduction to product management with four workshops and a case competition in the final week.
Objective.
MISA is a student-run organization for those studying or interested in Management Information Systems (MIS), aiming to connect students with industry professionals, provide networking opportunities, and offer resources on technology, business, and information systems.
Ideation process.
Event Ecosystem.
Precedent Collection.
Iterative Process.
I start by reviewing the event structure, staff roles, goals, and overall vibe. From there, I'll select keywords, colors, fonts, and themes to guide the design direction.
For each event, I’ll gather inspiring precedent designs, explore color combinations, refine font choices, and create a tailored mood board. I’ll also review competitors to understand industry trends and formalities.
I start with poster iterations to establish the desired art direction, which will then be adapted into various graphics to test flexibility and how well they convey the information.

Microsoft Breakthrough.
Breakthrough had a clear technical focus, as it was a hackathon, but I aimed to avoid clichés while staying within those boundaries. I used dynamic shapes, text breaking out of boxes, and a play on foreground and background elements to metaphorically represent innovation and disruption.

PMBC
PMBC is a bootcamp with four workshops, creating a more professional and networking-focused atmosphere. This offered greater flexibility in structuring and categorizing events. I used simple shapes to convey minimalism and professionalism, with colors to differentiate categories. To emphasize the multi-part nature of the event, I incorporated a map-style walking line graphic to connect information and guide viewers through the content, ensuring cohesion.
